Because Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic disease usually diagnosed
in young adults, the National MS Society understands well the
difficulties people experience when faced with physical
disabilities. Adaptive and assistive technologies play an important
role in helping people overcome physical limitations.
The Michigan Chapter of the National MS Society established an
annual gala event, the da Vinci Awards, to recognize the most
innovative developments and research in adaptive and assistive
technology.
The da Vinci Awards have become a prestigious international symbol
of recognition highlighting innovations which are designed to enable
everyone to participate and contribute in all aspects of society.
The da Vinci awards will recognize the most innovative developments
and research in adaptive and assistive technology that embrace the
Universal Design principle. This recognition will drive the
marketplace to stimulate "investment in" and the "development
of"
further creative advances ultimately enabling everyone full
participation in all aspects of society.
Proceeds from the da Vinci Awards benefit the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society, Michigan Chapter.
About the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with
multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling
disease of the
central nervous system. Most people with MS are diagnosed between
the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men
contracting the disease. There is no cure, and MS affects more than
400,000 people in the US., and 2.5 million worldwide.
The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals
who want to do something about MS NOW.
Together we are the MS movement.
Multiple sclerosis stops people from moving.
We exist to make sure MS doesn't.
